Ἀρτέμων ὁ Κασσανδρεύς
Artemon of Cassandreia
1 work

Artemon of Cassandreia (Ἀρτέμων ὁ Κασσανδρεύς) was a grammarian and literary critic active in the late 4th and early 3rd centuries BCE. A native of the Macedonian city of Cassandreia, he was a contemporary and associate of Neleus of Scepsis, a Peripatetic scholar who inherited Aristotle's library [2]. While sometimes confused with a later "Artemon of Pergamon," the earlier grammarian is consistently linked to Cassandreia [1].

His known work is the compilation and publication of an edition of Aristotle’s letters [1][2]. This editorial project is now lost.

Artemon’s significance rests on his role as an early editor of Aristotelian texts. His collection of Aristotle's correspondence represents an early effort to systematize the philosopher's works, linking him to the crucial early transmission history of Aristotle's library through his association with Neleus [2].
