Bion of Proconnesus (Βίων ὁ Προκοννήσιος) was a Greek historian of the 6th century BCE, originating from the island of Proconnesus in the Propontis [1]. His floruit places him within the Archaic period, but no further biographical details survive.
His only attested work is a lost history of Ethiopia (Aethiopica), which is referenced by later sources but from which no fragments are preserved [1].
Bion represents an early stage in Greek historiography and ethnography, preceding Herodotus. As an Ionian logographer, his focus on Ethiopia reflects the contemporary Greek interest in distant lands and contributes to the formative development of prose historical inquiry.
