Διονύσιος ὁ Ῥόδιος
Dionysius of Rhodes the Historian
1 work

Dionysius of Rhodes (Διονύσιος ὁ Ῥόδιος) was a Hellenistic historian active in the 3rd–2nd century BCE. His name indicates Rhodian origin, but no details of his life survive. His dating is inferred from the subject of his work, which treated events of the early 3rd century BCE [1].

His only known work is the History of the Diadochi (or Events after Alexander) (Ἱστορίαι τῶν Διαδόχων / Τὰ μετ᾽ Ἀλέξανδρον). The text is lost, preserved only in fragments cited by later authors [1].

Dionysius is a fragmentary historian whose account of Alexander the Great’s successors was used as a source by Diodorus Siculus in books 18–20 of his Bibliotheca historica [1]. Through this transmission, Dionysius contributed to the historical narrative of the early Hellenistic period, though the extent and reliability of his contribution cannot be independently verified.
