Ἐχεφυλλίδας ὁ ἱστορικός
Echephylidas the Historian
1 work

Echephylidas the Historian (Ἐχεφυλλίδας ὁ ἱστορικός) was an obscure Greek historian of the early Hellenistic period (4th–3rd centuries BCE) [1]. No biographical details survive. The fragmentary evidence suggests he was active after Alexander the Great, as one fragment references events in Caria [1].

His only known work is On Rhodes (Περὶ Ῥόδου), a historical text surviving only in citations [1].

Echephylidas is significant as a source of fragmentary historical information preserved by later authors. The geographer Strabo quotes his On Rhodes concerning the founding of the city and the territorial divisions (Demeis) among its three ancient cities: Lindos, Ialysos, and Kamiros [1]. This places him within the tradition of local historians (horographers) who documented regional histories and myths, and his fragments contribute to the understanding of Rhodian tradition.
