Life Lysanias of Mallos (Λυσανίας ὁ Μαλλώτης) was a historian from the city of Mallos in Cilicia. The 10th-century Byzantine encyclopedia, the Suda, provides the sole surviving record of his existence, noting he composed a history of Macedonia [1]. Although some later sources anachronistically label his era as Roman, his floruit in the 4th century BCE places him in the late Classical or early Hellenistic period.
Works His only known work is the Μακεδονικά (Macedonica), a history of Macedonia in one book [1]. The text is completely lost, with no fragments or descriptions of its content preserved beyond its title.
Significance Lysanias’s significance is minimal, deriving solely from his catalog entry as a lost historian. His inclusion in the Suda indicates a trace of his name survived into the Byzantine period, but the absence of any earlier references suggests his work had no discernible impact on the historiographical tradition.
