Butherus
1 work

Butherus is a little-known figure from late antiquity, possibly active between the 3rd and 6th centuries CE. He is identified as a Christian author who wrote on philosophical topics. No details about his life, origins, or education have survived.

He is credited with a single work, a treatise titled On the Soul. However, modern scholars consider this attribution to be spurious. The work is not accepted as authentic and does not form part of the standard corpus of ancient philosophical or early Christian writings. Its path of transmission and current survival status are unclear.

Due to the dubious nature of his sole attributed work, Butherus holds minimal historical significance. He is not regarded as an influential thinker within the philosophical or patristic traditions. According to academic sources, his mention appears to exist only because of this one disputed attribution.
